Carlota Subirós is a theatre director, playwright and translator. She holds a degree in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy (Extraordinary Prize from the Institut del Teatre 1997) and in Italian Philology (Honorary Prize from the University of Barcelona, ​​​​2001).

Her directorial work includes the first stage adaptation of Doris Lessing's novel The Golden Notebook (recognized with six Critics' Awards 2020, including Best Dramaturgy and Best Direction); The Night of the Iguana and The Rose Tattoo by Tennessee Williams, and Sol Solet and Maria Rosa, by Àngel Guimerà. In recent years she has also signed the dramaturgy and direction of two creative shows on political activism: Una lluita constant and Grrrls!

She has translated more than twenty plays into Catalan, by authors such as David Mamet, Luigi Pirandello and Wallace Shawn, as well as two important practical manuals: The Director’s Craft: A Handbook for the Theatre, by the British director Katie Mitchell and The Book of Viewpoints, by Anne Bogart.

Apart from her adaptations of literary works for the stage, she is the author of the cantata Al bell mig de la terra and the play for family audiences La llavor de foc. Between 2003 and 2011 she was part of the Artistic Direction Team of the Teatre Lliure. Between 2013 and 2020 she was part of the Reading Committee of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya. She is a professor in the Department of Dramaturgy and Staging at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona.
